    It is a vertical cliff in the southern side of the Wadi Umm Ushsh. It is constituted of six rocks whithin wich rock 2 and 4 have four engraved panels. Rocks 1, 2 and 3 are vertical sides of the wadi cliff while rocks 4 and 5 are fallen rocks at the foot of it (the engravings have been done after the fall of the rocks). Rock 6 is located in front the cliff in a scree of a adjacent tributary. The whole locus shows three navigation scenes (B2.P1 + B3.P2. + B4), four hunting scenes with archers, dogs and desert animals (ibex, oryx, kob) (B2.P4 + B3 P.4 + B5 + B6) and one scene of animal presentation (B2.P.3). All these engravings can be attributed to the Predynastic period.

On the top of the panel, 4 cows including two milked by little human figures. Below, a bowman with feather on the head and a rectangular unidentifiable motif.

    In the terrasse before the southern cliff, in the bedrock, this locus is a very complexe one. - Block1. Panel 1 : this panel could be interpreted like a predynastic victory scene, inclunding a boat representation. We found 9 male and maybe female representations, one dog and one uncomplete bovine. The central figure of this scene is a man, handing a bow, with very large feather on the head. - Block 1. Panel 2 : this panel presents two predynastic bowmen, probably associated with the panel 1. - Block 1. Panel3 : is a part of the war scene covering all the block. We can recognise 2 ibexes and 2 human beings with arms raised up. - Block 1. Panel 4 : this vertical wall of the block includes one ibex with long horns, one figure with raised arms and maybe one other human being, not clear. - Block 2 : is a predynastic hunting scene with one bowman, one ostrich without head and two dogs. - Block 3 : can be read like a war scene with one bowman and one figure with raised arms.

    At the bottom of the northern cliff, 5 blocks touching one to the others in an half circle place. - Block 1 : it is an predynastic scene, with two men touching one the tail and the other the horn of a big bovid, with marks on the body. The man touching the horns same to be latter that the rest of of the scene, added in a second engraving’s phase. - Block 2 : is an hunting scene with 4 human being including 3 bowmen and an unidentifiable mammals, linked to the bowman at the right of the scene. Probably predynastic. - Block 3 : is a scene of 50 cm large with 3 tabels : at the right of the scene, a man maybe holding a bow, probably predynastic ; on the left of the panel, 2 men with penis shelter are represented. They hold long bows on one hand an animal (a cow and a sheep or goat) by a rope on the other hand. They should be predynastic. On the upper part of the panel, a nice boat, maybe pharaonic, is represented, with a large cabine and 3 little figures at the bow of the boat. - Block 4 : is a scene of 50 cm high, with two faces of engravings ; the first is predynastic with 3 humans beings including 2 bowmen and one figure holding a long stick or a rope. The end of the rope/stick of the man touch the first of two boats, probably pharaonic. The upper of them should be funeral. The representations of boats include 10 human figures. - Block 5 : is an isolated representation of a bovid, from predynastic style.

Panel 2 : is a predynastic hunting scene with 3 bowmen and 1 ibex. Panel 3 : is a predynastic hunting scene with 1 bowman and 2 donkeys. Panel 4 : is a predynastic isolated bowman. Panel 5 : is an animal presentation with 2 ostriches, very patinated. - Block 2. : Panel 1 : a predynastic scene with one boat, 1 dog and 2 unidentifiable animals. Panel 2 : is a very altered predynastic scene where we can recognized one man holding a dog by a rope, 3 bowmen, 4 dogs around them and 1 bovine. Panel 3 : is a predynastic scene with a man holding a rope, 1 ibex, 1 Kob kobus and 7 unidentifiable animals. Panel 4 : is a predynastic scene with animal presentation and navigation, with 2 ibexes, 1 dog and one modern camel. Panel 5 : is a bad preserved predynastic scene, with 5 humans, including 2 bowmen, 1 ibex and 5 unidentifiable mammals. Panel 6 : is a complex predynastic hunting scene, with 3 men holding 3 bulls and maybe a crouching figure, in front view. Panel 7 : this very interesting scene could be dated from predynastic. It shows a representation of a boat from ‘sickle boat’ type with two cabins. One of them is overlaid by two birds. Following S. Hendrickx , this birds should be herons. We find parallel of this kind of representation in the wadi Abu Subeira himself, in the entrance of the wadi, in the KASS1 station, published by M. C. Gatto . Other representation of herons are represented in the Djebel Tjauti’s Inscription . This panel is dated from Nagada IIIA1. Following the indications gived by the shepa of our boat, L. 502. B2. P7 should be earlier (Naqaga II D ?).
  • Locus 503
    At the top of the cliff of the southern corner of the confluence, on an huge erratic block, two faces engraved : - Panel 1 : is a very developped navigation scene, with 6 boats and half of another one (continuying into panel 2). Around them, 7 dogs, 1 elephant, 1 donkey, 2 ibexes and 1 bull. 3 men are on the boats, and 2 another around (including 3 bowmen and 2 men holding curved sticks). This scene can be dated from predynastic, but we can recognized at least two phases of engraving. - Panel 2 : is another navigation scene, with 4 sickle boats and half another one (the second part of the boat beginning on panel 1). No human figure on the boat, but one unidentifiable animal and a man, both modern, below the upper boat. The boats at the right side of the scene are cutted by a modern vertical line.

    In the southern corner of the confluence, east to the natural column, - Block 1. : an erratic block, with vertical engraved panel showing a predynastic scene of animal domination, with at least 3 phases of engraving. We can recognize 4 men and one modern horseridders, one elephant, 8 ibexes, 2 ostriches, 6 dogs and 2 bovines. One man presents upraised arms. A particular representation is a man jumping on the back of the elephant. - Block 2 : on an erratic block, an animal presentation, from predynastic times, with only 2 donkeys. - Block 3 : on an erratic block, an animal presentation with a unidentifiable animal. - Block 4 : on an erratic block in the sand at the bottom of the southern cliff, a predynastic hunting scene, with 3 bowmen, 1 ibex, 3 dogs and one clearer ostrich. - Block 5 : an erratic block, a bad preserved representation of 2 men with upraised arms. One of them seems to be ithyphallic. - Block 6 : in the southern corner of the confluence, an erratic block, with 2 completely patinated representation of ithyphallic men, in profile. - Block 7 : in the southern corner of the confluence, an erratic block, with an isolated naqadan representation of bowman. - Block 8 : in the southern corner of the confluence, an erratic block, with a predynastic representation of dog.

    Is a group of 7 blocks falled down in the sand in the corner of the WAS and the Khawr Umm Udah, with 3 hunting scenes, 3 animal presentations scenes and 1 scene with unidentiable motifs. The most impressive block, Block 1 shows 1 predynastic hunting scene with one feline, 2 men with curved stick and one man with an horizontal stick.

    This station is composed by 2 blocks in the eastern terrasse of the Khawr Umm Udah valley. In the first, we found an predynastic hunting scene, in the second, one predynastic animal presentation’s scene and one prehistoric scene, with 2 human representations.

    In the terrasse in front of the southern cliff of the 5 southern branch of the WAS, in an isolated block in the sand, presenting : - Block 1. : one hunting scene with 2 bowmen, 1 oryx, 1 ostrich, 2 dogs, 1 ibex and 1 illegible animal. - Block 2 : 1 bowman and 1 woman with raised arms.

    This station includes 10 engraved blocks. It is situated in the eastern cliff of the lateral branch North n°3. - Block 2 : is an horizontal block fallen on the ground with two representations of predynastic bovines, one male and one female. - Block 3 : in the upper right corner of a sub-vertical panel, we find a depiction of a boat with a big steering oar. In this boat a man is represented. This boat may be dated from predynastic period. - Block 4 : the only decor of this panel is 2 unidentifiable predynastic style quadrupedes. - Block 5 : in a sub-vertical panel we can see a representation of rougly hammered predynastic bovine. - Block 6 : in this panel, a cow and a a bull lassoed by a male figure another figure between the two cattle. Predynastic. - Block 8 : in a sub-horizontal block, 2 mens with a round head, penis sheath, one raising one arm and the other holding an unidentifiable object. They are accompagnied by unidentifiable assymetrics motifs. All the decoration is very varnished and probably predynastic. - Block 9 : a block in the bottom part of a screen-covered slope. In its upper right corner is depicted a predynastic cow and her calf.

We can recognize a coptic cross. The more recent figure (without patination) is an unidentifiable animal. Panel 3 : two poorly preserved mammals. Panel 4 : two camels, the oldest hammered and a very recent one picked. - Block 2 : one modern vulture, with opened wigs. - Block 3 : a predynastic scene with one bowman, one ibex, one bovine and two dogs.

    This station is componed by 6 blocks in a scree-covered slope fell in the mainstream of the wadi upstream from of the embranchment of lateral branch North n°3. - Block 1 : is the down part of a huge shoulder decorated with 5 humans beings (some are bowmen) and animal (include elephants, giraffe, ibexes and quadrupedes). This decoration is dated from predynastic period. - Block 3 is a big bovine isolated, on a vertical panel, predynastic. - Block 4 : is a vertical panel with in its center two bovines opposed, predynastic. - Block 5 : is a fragmented shoulter with representations of sandalprint, human foot, a rider, a predynastic bowman, a dog and quadrupedes. Two period of activities are visibles : predynastic and modern. - Block 6 : is a sub-horizontal block with a rubbed depression. Around this depression are depicted foots with superposition with two antilopes, a bowman, two dogs and two big quadrupedes. On the limit of the panel, we can see a bowman with his dog, with not easy to see pecking technique and a lezard or crocodile very varnished associated with rubble depression. Not far away, is depicted an unidentifiable half circle figure. This representations are dated form Epipalaeolithic to modern times.

It is a question of shoulders in a screen-covered slope. - Block 3 : in this vertical panel, is depicted an single and maybe predynastic ibex, roughly pecked. - Block 6 : at the middle-height of a vertical panel is engraved a Nubian bowman with penis sheath with his dog, both from predynastic period. - Block 8 in an horizontal panel, two predynastic bovines. - Block 9 : at the bottom of the cliff, on a vertical block, we find a panel with a man wearing a garment like a loincloth or a coat, with a feather for headdress, holding a stick and accompagnated by 7 animals include a falcon, 3 dogs and 3 quadrupedes. - Block 10 : is a long panel in the sand. It is depicted with 3 humans figures include one bowman, one ewe et few assymetric unidentifiable motifs.

    This station includes 3 blocks. It is situated in the eastern cliff of the lateral branch North n°3. - Block 1 : is a predynastic bovine and a crosslike motif. - Block 2 is a vertical panel with a boat representation with a single central-rounded deck cabin, from predynastic period -Block 3 : is a pecked predynastic ibex.

    This station is situated in the embranchment west of the lateral branch North n°1, on the norther cliff of the mainstream. It is componed by two blocks : - Block 2 : is an vertical block of stone in the screen-covered slope with differents faces engraved. Panel 1 : 1 predynastic bovine and 2 quadrupedes associated with an arabic inscription (Abdelghani son of Ali Kerar, dated from 28th november 1994) and a contemporaneous sandalprint representation.

    Situated between Loci 22 and 23, in the lateral branch North n°3, this station includes two blocks. - Block 1 : is an isolated predynastic elephant - Block 2 : is an human figure with streched body, with a feather up on a round head and armed with a bow. It can be dated from predynastic.
  • Locus 048
    Locus 48 consists in a single large rock fallen from the north cliff of the wadi Umm Ushsh. Six scenes are engraved on the different sides of the rock. The whole scenes can be attributed to the Predynastic period. One of them seems to be earlier it is to say badarian, covered by a naqadian scene. They consists in five hunting scenes of desert animals (ibex, ostrich, kob ) by archers accompanied by dogs and a single navigation scene. An occurrence of donkeys is to be noticed on panel 3. In the first groups, 3 men they hold hands, touching their heads with their free hands. In the second group, one character stands on the shoulders of the other. we recognized to 3 dogs, 4 bovids, 1 elephant and 5 undeterminable animals. This upward slopping slab belongs to the southern foot’s cliff, facing north/east and toward the mainstream of the WAS.
  • Military Camp G
    In this animal presentation scene, with 2 phases of engraving, are represented 1 giraffe, 3 bovids and 1 oryx. The erratic block is sloping upward, facing east, toward the upriver and the engravings very patinated.
  • Military Camp H
    This locus is a triumph scene, very complex with around 25 human characters including bowmen and men carrying stick or scepter, others with upraised arms. Some figures wear penis sheath and hairdress with feathers. Around them 4 ibexes, 4 donkeys, 1 lizard and 3 dogs. it is possible to recognize at least 2 phases of engravings overlapping. At the bottom of the southern cliff, this block of the mother rock is engraved in one vertical and one horizontal faces. The patina is very advanced.
  • Military Camp I
    In this animal presentation and hunting scene, with at least 2 phases of engraving, are represented 3 human including bowmen and man carrying a stick or scepter, 1 giraffe and her giraffin, 1 bovid, 16 donkeys and 1 ibex. At the bottom of the southern cliff, the erratic block is sloping upward, facing north/east, toward the upriver and the engravings very patinated and patinated.
  • Military Camp J
    This locus is a hunting and navigation scene, very complex with including 3 bowmen, with bow and arrow and riders. Around them 3 boats from pharaonic times, including hull sail, bow, stern and helm. Different animals are represented to: 5 horses, 2 giraffes, 1 donkey and 1 oryx. The engravings belongs to different styles and phases of engravings : a predynastic one, a pharaonic one and a modern one. The engraved scene is very large, stretching almost the entire height of the cliff at this point. This slab of the mother rock is slopping down, facing the north, toward the mainstream of the WAS. The patina is very advanced to advanced.

    In this hunting scene, 1 bowman is accompanied by 5 dogs surrounding 2 ibexes. At the middle of the southern cliff, the block is sloping upward, facing north/west, toward the downriver and the patina very advanced.

    In this animal presentation scene, 1 solely elephant is deeply hammered. The panel belongs to the southern cliff, upward slopping, facing north, toward the mainstream od the WAS.

    This locus is a hunting scene, very complex with 8 human figures, including bowmen, and characters holding stick or scepter and pendulum. Different animals are represented to: 3 kobs, 1 ibex, 2 dogs, 3 bovids and 2 oryxes. The engravings belongs to different styles and phases of engravings : an epipaleolithic one, a badarian one and a predynastic one. The scene engraved is very large, around 3 meters and half. The engraved face is a highly visible and remarkable vertical rock scale at the foot of the cliff. This slab of the mother rock is facing the south/east, toward the upriver confluent. The patina is very advanced to complete.

    In this scene,15 human characters are represented, 10 of the holding hand to form a line. from the others, one is carrying a pendulum, during another open his arms to the horizontal. In a first stage of engraving, overlapped by the human characters, an elephant was represented. The panel belongs to the southern cliff, in an erratic block forming the lateral part of a rock shelter. The panel is vertical, facing east, toward he confluent. The patina is very advanced.

    The station is composed by only one block of 200 x 70 cm, in the riverbed of the main wadi. The block was for most part covered by sand and it had to be cleaned. The decoration of this panel is one the most important scene we found during this fieldwork : it is a question of an complexe hunting scene with 8 humans beings and 37 animals (dogs, bovines, elephant). In the sand covering the panel, we find some little lithic tools they may have been used to engrave the panel. This representation can be dated from Naqada IIC-D.
